WWE Superstars work hard on their acting skills to play their on-screen characters to perfection for their fans. Not only do WWE Superstars have to work on their wrestling abilities in WWE, but the Performance Centre also helps most newcomers learn how to act and play different characters to sell the product. These skills end up coming in handy later on in their careers too, as many WWE Superstars have tried their luck in the world of acting. While WWE Studios produces a few movies each year starring top WWE Superstars, several wrestlers have managed to bag acting rolesin other productions. Since 2021 has just begun and fans are looking forward to some entertainment in the new year, let’s look at nine upcoming films starring WWE Superstars.
WWE Superstar Lana has a major role in Cosmic Sin. Lana has one of the most unique character sin WWE today. While the WWE Superstar was brought in as the Russian associate of Rusev, she has managed to make a name for herself in the company. In 2020, Lana uploaded a vlog on her YouTube channel where she spoke about an upcoming project. The WWE Superstar revealed that she’d be starring alongside Hollywood’s top gun Bruce Willis in a sci-fi film titled ‘Cosmic Sin’. The film follows a group of warriors and scientists who look for a way to protect the planet and the human race from a hostile alien species. The WWE Superstar seems to have a major role in the film, and it will be interesting to see how she and Willis save the human race. WWE Superstar John Cena has his hands full with Project X-Traction, F9, The Suicide Squad, The Janson Directive, and Vacation Friends(2021-2022). Regarded by many as the greatest WWE Superstar of his generation, John Cena has found as much success on the silver screen as he did in the wrestling ring.
The 16-time WWE World Champion has been wrestling only a handful of matches every year and seems to be acting in more movies at the same time. Cena has acted in a long list of films, not unlike fellow WWE Superstars Dwyane ‘The Rock’ Johnson and Batista. A number of films starring Cena are in the pipeline, and fans can expect to see him on a lot more film posters once the threat of the pandemic dies down. In 2021, F9 will be released as the ninth main installment in the Fast & Furious franchise. Cena will play the role of Dominik Torreto’s brother. F9 will also star WWE legend The Rock who has become a cornerstone of the Fast & Furious franchise. Project X-Traction is also expected to release later on in the year. Cena plays the role of a former U.S. Marine, Chris Van Horne, in the film and stars alongside legendary Hollywood actor Jackie Chan. The Doctor of Thuganomics is also stated to play the role of ‘Peacemaker’ in the upcoming installment of the Suicide Squad franchise. Apart from that, The Janson Directive and Vacation Friends are the other two movies starring Cena that are scheduled to release in late 2021 and mid-2022. It looks like the WWE Superstar will have a very hectic filming schedule throughout the year, and fans can expect him to miss some more big WWE pay-per-views.
WWE Superstar Saurav Gurjar will star in the Indian movie Brahmastra. Saurav Gurjar may be new to the WWE Universe, but he is a well-known figure in the sub-continent. The WWE Superstar is currently part of the NXT roster where he is one-half of The Indus Shers. Best known for his role as Bheem in the TVshow Mahabharat, Saurav is also a National Kickboxing Gold Medalist in India. Saurav is currently part of a star-studded film titled Brahmastra set to be released in India in late 2021. WWE Superstar Dolph Ziggler is set to playa role in Heel (2021). Dolph Ziggler plays one of the best heel character son the WWE Network today. Over the years, the WWE Superstar has proven himself to be one of the best and most gifted wrestlers in the WWE ring. The former WWE Heavyweight Champion has not only managed to make a name for himself inside the ring but outside too. Ziggler is a stand-up comedian who perform sunder his real name, Nic Nemeth. Other than that, Ziggler has also acted ina few films and TV shows during his career. Fans can expect the talented WWE Superstar to do a great job in the movie, given the fact that he plays his on-screen character extremely well. The film is expected to release sometime in2021.
WWE Superstar Roman Reigns and Becky Lynch will lend their voices to Rumble (2021). It’s my personal Favorite. WWE Studios has taken a step away from producing films in recent years and has been producing more Web Series. However, WWE has a major film in the pipeline starring two of the biggest WWE Superstars in the company today. WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns will join forces with former RAW Women’s Champion Becky Lynch to star in Rumble, an animated film based on wrestling. According to the film’s IMDb page, the storyline of the movie is. “In a world where monster wrestling is a global sport and monsters are superstar athletes, teenage Winnie seeks to follow in her father's footsteps by coaching a loveable underdog monster into a champion.” The film stars Geraldine Viswanathan as Winnie, who aspires to become a wrestling trainer and manager just like her father. Winnie tries to train Steve, voiced by Will Arnett, into becoming a future World Champion. Sounds like your everyday wrestling storyline, doesn’t it? However, with the inclusion of Reigns and Lynch, fans can expect the movie to be much bigger than expected. Both WWE Superstars will lend their voices to some characters.
